The threat of rain and humid conditions Saturday, Aug. 17, couldn't keep the MG enthusiasts away from Abingdon when the Chicagoland MG Club made their return trip to the city.
The sporty little MGs were once manufactured in the city of Abingdon, England and MG owners have visited Abingdon, Ill. to celebrate the history behind their cars each year since the last car rolled off the production line in 1980.
This year there was a special focus on the "MMM" series of cars - - models produced between 1928 and 1936. Only about 3,000 of these cars have survived worldwide and many of them were present in Abingdon for the festivities.
MG owners participated in a variety of activities on Saturday including the "Abingdon Commons CAr SHow" and the famous "Abingdon Gymkhana," a test of driving skill held on Main Street in downtown Abingdon.
Vendors were set up in the park where items were for sale as was a variety of food and drinks. A sand volleyball tournament was also held in conjunction with the MG show.
