FTP of Web Pages - abingdon.net

Detailed instructions for using FTP to transfer your pages to the web server. (directions assume that you have Netscape 2.0, Fetch or WS_FTP running)

Fetch

  • From 'File' menu choose ' open connection '
  • Enter the following in the dialog box:
    • Host: ' www.abingdon.net '
    • User ID: ' youracctname '
    • Password: ' yourpassword '
    • Directory: ' public_html '
  • You may save a copy of this configuration by entering it in the 'Edit Shortcuts' of the 'Customize Menu'.
WS_FTP
  • Within the 'connect to' dialog box, enter:
    • Host name: ' www.abingdon.net '
    • User ID: ' youracctname '
    • Password: ' yourpassword '
    • Other options can be left blank
  • Once the connection has been established, the left side shows the directories and files on your computer and the right side shows the files on the remote host (abingdon.net computer)
  • Change the directory on the remote host (right side) to ' public_html '
  • To transfer a file, select a file on the left side and click the ' -> button' in the center to transfer that file to the abingdon.net computer
The FTP software should automatically determine the type of transfer (ASCII/text, binary, etc.); occasionally you will need to specify the type of transfer.
  • text files: transfer as 'TEXT' or 'ASCII' or 'raw data'
  • graphics files: transfer as 'Binary' or 'raw data'
Front Page 2000 Netscape Composer (Netscape 4.7) Netscape Gold Netscape 2.0 or above
  • Open location: ' ftp://username@www.abingdon.net/public_html/ ' where username is your username
  • From the 'File' menu, choose ' Upload File '
  • In the dialog box, select the file you wish to upload (place on the web site).
